Junior and Youth Squads
The Royal Yacht Club of Victoria invites junior and youth members to participate in the Off the Beach (OTB) coaching squads. Coaching sessions are currently run in class groups: International Optimist (Optis) and International Cadets. Optimists are split into Green Fleet and Open Fleet skill level groups.
Greenfleet is the entry level OTB club coaching and introductory race program for sailors who have completed the Tackers course or are sufficiently competent to further advance their sailing to competition level.

Open fleet coaching sessions for Optis and Cadets commence the first Sunday in October with the start of the sailing season. A reduced schedule of coaching continues over the winter season.

OTB Club Racing
OTB racing is open to all ages and classes and is Sunday afternoons. All junior sailors are encouraged to join racing. Participation in Club racing is fun, builds independence and team spirit and assists greatly in advancing sailing skills. We encourage all RYCV junior sailors to take up this opportunity. There is no cost to Club Members, but entry form documents are required. See here.
Requirements for squad coaching:
- RYCV membership
- Completed enrolment / consent form and payment of fees
- A seaworthy boat, appropriate clothing & safety gear. Including sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, sailing shoes or boots and lifejacket.
- A notebook & pen for onshore coaching, rules discussions, etc.
- A desire to improve your sailing skills and have fun.
- Rigged and ready by commencement time of each session
