RYCV conducts a number of short courses designed to improve skills in a specific areas.

CLUB CRANE COURSE

This course must be successfully completed prior to using the either of the Club’s Hardstand Cranes.

What you’ll Learn:

At the end of this course you will have a basic understanding of:

  • Safety issues around Crane use
  • Lifting gear selection and maintenance
  • Practical use of the Clubs cranes

Duration: One session of 3 Hours

Cost:$60 per person

VHF MARINE RADIO OPERATORS COURSE (SROCP)

This course teaches participants the correct procedures when using VHF Marine Radios and includes testing to obtain a SROCP from the Office of Maritime Communications.  This is the Internationally recognized qualification not the Australian waters only qualification, hence it is recognized around the world and can be used when a VHF qualification is required when chartering a yacht overseas.

What you’ll learn:

At the end of this course you will have an understanding of:

  • Use of VHF radio telephony
  • Understanding and use of DSC facilities
  • Maintenance of marine radio equipment
  • Understanding of regulations applicable to the use of ship marine radios
  • Knowledge of Australian Marine Search and Rescue system

Duration: One session of 4 hours

Cost: $230 per person for Members and $260 for Non Members which includes a hard copy of the Marine VHF Radio Operators Handbook and the examination fee to undertake ACMA test to obtain your SROCP qualification.

  • GMDSS systems and equipment
  • Use of MF/HF and VHF radio telephony
  • Understanding and use of DSC facilities
  • Maintenance of marine radio equipment
  • Understanding of regulations applicable to the use of ship marine radios
  • Knowledge of Australian Marine Search and Rescue system

Duration: 3 sessions over 3 evenings

Cost: $310 for RYCV Members and $340 for Non Members, which includes a hard copy of the Marine Radio Operators Handbook and the examination fee to undertake ACMA test to obtain your LROCP qualification.

DIESEL MAINTENANCE COURSE

Learn how to maintain and properly care for your diesel engine.

What you’ll learn:

At the end of this course you will have a basic understanding of:

  • the 4 Stroke diesel cycle engine
  • naturally aspirated/turbo charged fuel systems
  • tanks
  • filtering systems
  • injection systems
  • air/exhaust systems
  • cooling systems
  • electrical systems
  • lubrication
  • owner maintenance/trouble shooting
  • vessel installations

Duration: One session of 3 hours

Cost: $110 per person

Sat 18th May 9am-12pm


MAN OVERBOARD WORKSHOP (RECOVERY TECHNIQUES)

We all should practice our man overboard (MOB) drills to get our boat back to a fellow crew member or guest in the water, but how many of us have had a go at getting a helpless, wet, 100 kg person back on board, even in relatively mild conditions?

What you’ll learn:

At the end of this course you will have an understanding of:

  • the techniques that can be used to successfully retrieve a person back on board
  • gear that is available to assist in retrieval
  • setting up systems on the boat to assist retrieval
  • different scenarios you may be faced with such as MOB with a tether attached

Duration: 1 session of 3 hours

Cost: $50 per person.
