I am delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Neumann as the Club’s new General Manager. Michael will join us at the end of January 2019 after completing his current duties with the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) and taking a few weeks of well-earned rest.
Michael has been employed as Operations Manager at the CYCA since 2013. Amongst his many duties were the delivery of the on-shore elements of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race in both Sydney and Hobart and project managing the CYCA’s involvement in the 2019 Invictus Games, Extreme Sailing Series as well as a variety of State, National and International yacht races and championships.
He brings with him a very strong background in the management and delivery of major projects, including a recent $7M renovation of the CYCA’s main club house which was delivered on time and within budget.
Prior to his move to the CYCA, Michael managed the yard and marina at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS). He was directly involved in the construction of the new RMYS marina, an experience that will bring significant value to the club given the current plans for our own marina. Michael’s experience and suitability for the GM’s role at Royals is strongly supported by references from past employers, colleagues and board members.
We will of course be sorry to see Roger Eastham go, but the Committee fully understands the challenges Roger has been facing with the long commute between Ocean Grove and Williamstown and is reluctantly but fully supportive of his decision to step aside. Roger will be available to manage a detailed hand over and has assured us that he will remain available to assist Michael settle in to the GM’s role in the coming months.
