Last Sunday was the start of the Summer Season and the first race day for the OTB group. With temperatures at around 25°C and southerly wind at around 10 knots it became a beautiful day out on the bay.
After a lot of Winter Training nearly all International Cadet crews showed up to participate in the first race and also some senior OTB sailor found their way to RYCV to start their season. Right from the start of the race it was obvious that the hard training over the last months paid off as all Cadets were close together around the marks.
At the end Anaconda with new RYCV member Elliot and Ava won just second before the Supersonic brothers Mats and Lasse ahead of the Bridgewick Farm(ers) Maddie and Zac.
In the Senior OTB group David Johnson was kicked out of his 29er “Frequent Flyer” by the younger sailors and jumped into a Laser. He finished the first race of the season in first place ahead of Peter Roberts and Liz Johnston.
With slightly increasing winds a second training race was done afterwards which enabled Clare to give some on-water feedback to the younger sailors in regards to boat handling and tactics.
All in all a good start into the 2018/2019 summer season that already showed some very exciting racing.
