We had a depleted team this year to run Royals Melbourne Cup Day but the three of us managed quite well to run another successful day. PC Bob McGregor and his partner Kathy Shelley ran the usual Cup Sweeps and Megan Jackson held the show together, providing the Hamper which she raffled with proceeds towards the Cadet Travel Fund, and hosted the Fashion on the Field which was entertaining and well supported.
The weather was foul prior to lunch and approximately 100-110 members and friends braved the extreme rain to bring their hampers to enjoy lunch with friends.
The weather cleared at 2pm with the sun out for all to enjoy the Fashion Parade on the decking followed by watching the Cup on our two screens.
Pier 41 did a fine job behind the bar with jugs of cocktails for the first time, and bar snacks and finger food
was available from the kitchen.
The two Bar Cup Sweeps sold to the members on Friday 2nd Nov were won by Sandy Doull and Dani Limbacle,$100 each.
The Cup Sweeps paid out $1300 in prizes and a profit of $400 is going to the Cadet Travel Fund.
Thanks to all our friends and members that support this Club function, a tradition for over twenty years.
Many thanks to Commodore John Duffin and wife Carol for assisting with Fashions on the Field, hamper and phantom raffles draw.
