Powerboat Training Courses

Powerboat training at the Royals Training Centre is a great way to get your Victorian Powerboat Licence and develop your powerboat handling skills at the same time.

Royals Training Centre runs all three courses in the Australian Sailing (formerly Yachting Australia) Discover Powerboating Program. We also offer the 4 hour Transport Safety Victoria (TSV) accredited theory-only powerboat licensing course.

Contact our Sail Training Development Manager, Ian Fox at on (03) 9397 1277 or at training@rycv.asn.au for dates, further information and to enrol. Practical Powerboat Course

Passing the Marine Licence course does not teach you how to operate a powerboat, but this course does. This 3 hour course is aimed at people who have already obtained their powerboat licence through the 4 hour Theory Course and would like to improve their boat handling skills. Course dates are set as required so please contact us for dates.

Cost: $400 on our training boat. Arrangements can also be made to complete the course on your own boat at a time and place that suits you.

How to register for an Australian Sailing course at RYCV…

To register for all sailing courses at RYCV, you will need an Australian Sailing number. This is your unique identifier that recognises you as a member and/or course participant. If you already have an Australian Sailing number, you can look it up here. If you do not have one, then there is an option to begin registration for an Australian Sailing number when registering for a course or Discover Sailing experience for the first time (follow the links via course registration).

Once registered, you will receive a number, a username and an online profile. The benefits of this include being able to enrol in any national sailing courses, register for a ‘SailPass’, and to keep a record of your memberships, courses and qualifications.
